Holy Imagination
-for Matthew Fox
We can sing ourselves into circles,
Slide stocking feet across oak floors.
We can look into another's eyes
and listen to the sound
our own eyes chant in return.
In the end we are only people
being tribal. So simple,
to gather beside a body of water-
ocean, river, lake,
big as a woman's heart.
Our leader has the animal name.
Untamed, he wears a mane of wild hair.
Our own names could be wild!
Like "River Overflowing" or
"No More Crying In The Kitchen.”
We could imagine a world
without school boards
or even schools! We could dream
back a world without greed.
Come, gather all the pebbles and pine boughs,
reach as high as the next galaxy's stars. Supernovas,
black holes, are nothing beside all creation.
We are the fireballs God hurls across the sky.
